People everywhere are using smartphones to talk, text, check email, surf the Web and play games. The ever-expanding capabilities of these devices are ultra-convenient for consumers, but there is a downside: more opportunity for damage. Innovez developed a protective slider case for the iPhone 4 that combines style and sustainability.
Industry: Consumer products - Protective case electronics
Application: Protective iPhone 4 case
Product: Makrolon® 2605 polycarbonate
Technology: Color and special effects technologies
Innovez relies on Makrolon® 2605 polycarbonate from Covestro to help the case and the device to withstand daily use and abuse.
This thermoplastic offers good balance of properties, including outstanding impact strength and dimensional stability over a wide temperature range. As another benefit, the resin releases easily from the mold for greater processing efficiency.
During the injection molding process, Makrolon® is combined with EcoPpure™, an additive for plastics that promotes biodegradation, according to Innovez. The molded part is a durable, high-impact shell, measuring 11.9 x 6.3 x 1.4 cm.
Covestro´s Color and Special Effects Technologies enable Innovez to offer the "i-catching" hues it desired for its sleek and stylish iPhone 4 case. Part of Innovez's ecovez collection, the ergonomically designed glider case is available in the United States and internationally in six vivid, high-gloss colors: green, orange, black, clear, pink or blue. These bold, transparent colors allow consumers to express their personal style and protect their phones, while reducing their environmental footprint.
In addition to consumer products and electronics, versatile, recyclable Makrolon® 2605 is well-suited to applications in the automotive, lighting, optical device, and building and construction industries.
