Polycarbonates for optical applications
Covestro offers Makrolon® polycarbonate grades formulated specifically for the optical/ophthalmic market. For example, lenses formed from polycarbonate offer a number of advantages over lenses made from other materials.
Protect your eyes whenever needed
When looking at materials for optical lenses, the benefits of utilizing polycarbonates become visible.
Covestro offers a lens-quality grade of Makrolon® polycarbonate resin. In addition to offering good optical properties, this grade features high mechanical strength and toughness. In fact, lenses made with this material are extremly robust, helping to provide protection against eye injuries.
Functional coatings, such as anti-fog and polarization films, can also be easily combined with the polycarbonate for added comfort and protection.
Makrolon® grades provide ultraviolet protection and offer a transmission rate of > 89 percent measured at 1 mm wall thickness with a higher level of purity.
In addition to these benefits, Makrolon® polycarbonate is inherently light weight, which leads to greater comfort for the wearer.
From sunglasses and sports eyewear to corrective lenses, Makrolon® polycarbonate’s unique combination of properties makes it a smart choice for every member of the family.
