Handled with care

Life-saving medication can be a godsend to patients, yet inadvertent exposure to cytotoxic drugs is a serious threat to the medical professionals administering them.

infusion valve connector utilizes Makrolon® Rx1805 medical grade polycarbonate from Covestro
The Q-FLO™, which utilizes Makrolon® Rx1805 medical grade polycarbonate from Covestro, is a closed, no drip, valved male luer connector.

The Q-FLO™ from Infusion Innovations Inc. (I³) is a closed system transfer device that offers improved safety and convenience for healthcare workers administering cytotoxic drugs to patients. When engineering its Q-FLO™ valve connector, I³ sought a material with proven safety and functionality.

I³ had a specific list of material needs, including meeting the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirements and a level of chemical resistance required for use with cytotoxic and nuclear medicine.

Makrolon® Rx1805 polycarbonate was selected for its strength, clarity, lipid/chemical resistance, biocompatibility and gamma stability. The material meets IS0 10993-1 and USP Class VI tests for up to 30-day contact with human tissue. The Q-FLO™ is cleared by the FDA for use in reconstituting, dispensing/transferring, administering, and disposal of non-hazardous fluids and potentially hazardous fluids such as those used in chemotherapy, radioactive isotopes, blood products and nuclear medicine.
