Task

Challenge

JVIS USA wanted a material that could be used with its variable temperature molding (VTM) process – a rapid mold heating and cooling technology – to produce durable, attractive and commercially viable high-gloss seat components.

A 2016 SUV from a U.S.-based automaker features these components. Bayblend® T85 XF PC+ABS blend resin from Covestro is an ideal thermoplastic for rich, piano black interior automotive applications – even those with large, thin design sections. Thinner parts reduce material costs and component weight, improving the vehicle’s energy efficiency. VTM helps eliminate surface imperfections during the molding process. Weld lines are invisible, and a clear coat offers depth with scratch and mar resistance, helping to ensure components maintain their appearance.
