Industrial facilities often require lighting fixtures that offer optimal performance in harsh elements. Functioning as an area, flood or wall pack light, the Incoplas™ LED Hybrid was developed as part of Shat-R-Shield, Inc.’s line of lightweight and corrosion-resistant LED fixtures.


The Incoplas™ LED Hybrid required a material for its main luminaire housing that met challenging thermal and environmental requirements. Since aluminum is subject to corrosion in tough environments, Shat-R-Shield turned to Covestro to find the ideal thermaly conducting material.


Thermally conductive Makrolon® polycarbonate acts as a heat sink in the main luminaire housing to not only withstand prolonged exposure to moisture, dust and chemicals, but to also allow for a lightweight and versatile design. Additionally, Makroblend® resin offers chemical resistance, dimensional stability and superior impact strength for the housing. The luminaire’s lens also features Makrolon® polycarbonate diffusion sheet in the luminaire lens, which provides higher flammability resistance and wider service temperature compared to acrylic.

Makroblend® resin resists catching on fire due to its flame redartant properties, and retains its original shape when exposed to heat or humidity.

Makrolon® polycarbonate diffusion sheet is not easily damaged by heat and offers a wider service temperature range.
