International Material Data System (IMDS)
The IMDS is an external database maintained by Hewlett-Packard in which materials or parts used in vehicle manufacture are archived and managed. The IMDS is a joint development by EDS (now part of Hewlett-Packard) and Audi, BMW, Daimler, Ford, Opel, Porsche, VW and Volvo. Other car manufacturers have since joined the group.
IMDS datasheets are essential to comply with the obligations placed on car manufacturers (and thus also on automotive suppliers) by national and international standards, laws and regulations, for example E.U. Directive 2000/53/EC on the recycling of end-of-life vehicles.
IMDS material data sheets for products manufactured by Covestro are not published, but available on request. The Covestro company ID is 2469.
Important tips regarding IMDS requests can be found in our FAQs.
